Frequently Asked Questions

How long are sessions?

Sessions are 50 minutes or 80 minutes in length, depending on your needs and preferences. Some individuals like to meet for 50 minutes weekly, while others prefer a longer session every two weeks. Not sure which is right for you? We can talk about it together and create a plan.

How often should I attend therapy?

Clients typically book weekly to get the most out of counselling, but sessions may be more or less frequent depending on your needs and the severity of your concerns. During your first session, we’ll sit down together and determine a schedule that feels right for you.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes! I offer direct billing options for Blue Cross and Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC). If you have mental health coverage under another insurer, you will receive a detailed receipt you can submit for reimbursement. Note: The majority of insurance companies provide reimbursement for counselling therapy. Reach out to your provider to confirm if counselling is covered for you.

What is your cancellation policy?

Kiwi Counselling requires at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Late cancellations are subject to a 50% session fee and appointments missed without notice are subject to the full session fee.

When you book an appointment, your therapist spends time preparing for the session and reserves your spot in their calendar. When appointments are cancelled without proper notice, a spot that could have gone to another client goes unfilled. This means your therapist loses a significant portion of their income for the day and another person goes without the care they need.

If you are unable to attend your appointment in person, for any reason, I offer the ability to change your session to phone/virtual. If you know you will be late to an appointment, reach out and your spot will be held.

How long will I need to go to therapy to see results?

The answer to this is different for everyone. Some clients begin to notice progress after only a few sessions, while others need more support to see long lasting results. We’ll check in regularly to ensure we’re on the right track.

Do you offer sliding scale fees? What is that?

Yes! Sliding scale means session fees are adjusted based on your financial situation. It’s designed to make therapy more affordable, so you can get the support you need at a rate that feels manageable. Please reach out to learn more about the sliding scale process or request an application form.
